Sidewalk in your assistant

Find your next place from the assistant you already use

Connect Sidewalk to Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant that supports connectors, and ask it for apartments the way you would ask a friend. It searches real, active listings and can send a tour request to the listing agent for you.

Add Sidewalk to your assistant

It takes about a minute. Copy this URL, then follow the steps for your assistant.

Connector URL
https://hellosidewalk.com/mcp

Claude

  1. In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector. Name it Sidewalk and paste the URL above.
  3. Select Connect, sign in to Sidewalk, and approve the connection. In a chat, check that Sidewalk is switched on in the tools menu.

Custom connectors depend on your Claude plan.

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps & Connectors. Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode.
  2. Choose Create. Name it Sidewalk, paste the URL above, and pick OAuth for authentication.
  3. Sign in to Sidewalk and approve the connection. In a chat, add Sidewalk from the tools menu.

Developer mode depends on your ChatGPT plan.

Using another assistant? Any one that supports remote MCP connectors with sign-in can use the same URL. If a menu name above doesn't match, look for Connectors in your assistant's settings.

The first time, your assistant sends you to hellosidewalk.com to sign in (Google or an email link; new accounts are free) and to approve the connection. After that, tour requests go out with the name, contact details and verification badges on your Sidewalk account, so you never fill in a form twice.

Things to ask

  • “Find me a one-bedroom in Greenpoint under $3,500 near the G train.”
  • “What's open in Astoria with laundry in the unit and no broker fee?”
  • “How long is the commute from that apartment to Union Square?”
  • “Request a tour of the second one for Saturday morning.”

What your assistant can do

  • search_listings

Search active rentals by neighborhood, borough, bedrooms, price, no-fee, pets and amenities. Up to 10 results, each with a link to the listing on Sidewalk.

  • get_listing

One listing's details: description, amenities, fees, photos and building.

  • get_building_info

A building by address or name: amenities, year built, nearby subway stops, and what's available now.

  • get_neighborhood_info

What a neighborhood is like, its subway lines, and current price ranges.

  • get_commute

Travel time between two places in the city.

  • request_tour

Send a tour request to the listing agent from your Sidewalk account.

Your assistant confirms the listing and your preferred times with you before sending a tour request. Requests it sends appear in your Sidewalk tours, the same as ones you send on the site.

Your information

Your assistant sees listings and the results of what it asks for. It does not receive your income details, documents, applications, or your saved conversations on Sidewalk. When it sends a tour request, the listing agent gets your contact details and badges directly, and your assistant is told only that the request went out and which badges were included.

Sidewalk follows fair housing law: listings are never filtered or described by who should live there. See our Fair Housing and Privacy pages.
